ASIAN INSTITUTE OF GEMOLOGICAL SCIENCES – AIGS

The Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences was founded in 1978 as South East Asia’s first international gemological education facility. The school was founded in order to provide professional training for those who were looking to expand their opportunities within the gem and jewelry industry, as well as increase the general public’s knowledge and appreciation of gemstones. Today, AIGS has become a world recognized international gemological school, where many students from all over the world come together to learn and forge relationships that will last throughout their careers.

GGTL Laboratories Switzerland (formerly GemTechLab) was founded by Franck Notari in 1996. The laboratory is an independent gemmological laboratory that combines cutting-edge technology and expertise to serve the gem trade and the scientific research. The laboratory based in Geneva offers gem, diamond, and pearl testing reports as well as diamond grading reports. First pioneers in the melee parcels testing and grading for the Watch Industry more than twenty years ago, they also develop innovative scientific instruments specially built to improve gem testing. The laboratory merged with GGTL Laboratories Liechtenstein (formerly Gemlab Liechtenstein) in 2011.

GGTL Laboratories Liechtenstein (formerly Gemlab Liechtenstein) was founded by Dr Thomas Hainschwang in 1996. The laboratory is an independent gemmological laboratory that combines cutting-edge technology and expertise to serve the gem trade and the scientific research. Specialized in analysis of coloured diamonds, they also develop innovative scientific instruments specially built to improve gem testing. The laboratory based in Balzers offers gem, diamond, and pearl testing reports as well as diamond grading reports. The laboratory merged with GGTL Laboratories Geneva (formerly GemTechLab) in 2011.

JGGL was founded in 1995 by Masashi Furuya who had a long experience of gem testing and gemstone trading. He and his family stayed in Idar-Oberstein, Germany from 1960s. As Idar-Oberstein was the center of the color stone trading at that time, he enjoyed many new finding of gemstones, wonderful cutting and carving technique of that city and the development of analytical gem identification. Also, his passion to gemstones led him to the mining project at sapphire rush in Ilakaka, Madagascar as a geological advisor from 1999. His and JGGL’s philosophy always says that gemstones are more than just a value, and they are emotional and romantic because it carries the various thoughts of miners, cutters, dealers and customers. With this philosophy, he set up the laboratory to share the knowledge and passion to gemstones with consumers, dealers, minors and all people related to gemstones.

The Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie was created in 1929 in Paris, the capital of luxury and fine jewelry. Its aim is to issue analysis gem reports (diamonds, coloured stones and pearls) deposited by professional and private clients. The principle of the LFG and of all Gemalliance members is to base its results solely on the basis of scientific publications. The laboratory is ISO 9001 certified, an international standard relating to quality management systems. He is also certified RJC (Responsible Jewelery Council) which concerns ethical, social and environmental themes. The LFG is also engaged in ISO 17025 accreditation on its analysis methods.

The University of Nantes is a French university located in the Loire-Atlantique and Vendée regions, with its main campuses located in Nantes Métropole. Created in its present form in 1961, it has its origins in the Ducal University of Brittany founded in 1460 in Nantes by François II, Duke of Brittany. The University of Nantes was the first university in the world to offer a university degree in gemmology, allowing gemologists from all over the world to learn advanced analytical techniques applied to gemmology. The University of Nantes is not only dedicated to teaching but also to fundamental research with powerful technical means.
